The purpose of this project is to document the biodiversity of the Shelby Black Fork Wetlands to gain a better understanding of the flora and fauna contained in this nature preserve. This project is managed by the Richland County Park District. RCPD promotes the science of natural history through the usage of the INaturalist platform to encourage citizens to engage in citizen science by assisting in collecting data that can be used for institutional research and public outreach. RCPD encourages responsible use of the INaturalist platform. Users are reminded that the pursuit of endangered species, whether it results in the capture of an animal or not, is unlawful without a permit from the Ohio Division of Wildlife (ORC 1501:31-23-01). Please consider the following rules of etiquette when in the field (thanks to Greg Lipps): (1) don't pursue listed species, (2) don't disturb research sites or equipment, (3) leave the habitat as you found it, (4) do not trespass, (5) communicate with land managers and staff, (6) don't disclose sensitive location information, (7) be a model for ethical behavior, and (8) appreciate and respect native flora and fauna. Please note that if you would like to obscure the location of a particular sighting you may select "Private" under the option for "Change Geoprivacy." Private locations will not be visible on the map but will still be visible to RCPD and can be used for our data collection purposes. Thanks for joining our project! We hope you have a great time exploring the Shelby Black Fork Wetlands and observing wildlife! We appreciate your help in collecting data documenting the flora and fauna in the preserve!
