Susquehanna Trilliums

The purpose of this project is to collect observations of "Susquehanna Trilliums," which are otherwise scattered with different IDs.

These are Trillium populations along the lower Susquehanna River and close vicinity that don't really match traditional species descriptions in this genus. They are members of the Trillium erectum species complex, but are otherwise divergent, combining characters of several species.

These plants are sometimes identified as:
(1) species (T. flexipes, T. erectum, or T. cernuum)
(2) hybrids (the parents are usually asserted to be T. flexipes and T. erectum, but T. cernuum could also be possible),
(3) T. erectum var. album (but ovary color is inconstant), a particular variety.

There are other possible explanations and/or descriptors.

For the purposes of this project we'll include any T. erectum complex member that is found growing wild along the Lower Susquehanna River, along a nearby tributary, or otherwise nearby, but that is not obviously T. erectum or T. cernuum. less ↑
