PROJECT GOALS

1. Document the fungi that are present in wood chip habitats in the Eugene-Springfield area. (This project will be supplemented with additional documentation in the next few years to infill missing seasons and capture irregular weather and fruiting cycles as well as possible.)
2. Expand the list of documented fungi in Lane County as part of the MLCO project.
3. Provide a learning and career development opportunity.
4. Use the baseline list of fungal species present in wood chip habitats as one piece of information for determining arrival of new species.

5. Contribute factual information to public research institutions and web sites.
   In addition to our goals, the information may be used by others for development of similar lists, researching invasive fungal species, researching control methods for management of chip breakdown in playgrounds and gardens, and for climate change research since decomposition is such an important part of the climate cycle.
