Father and husband. I didn't use to have any kind of interest in observing, identifying, recording this stuff, but about 6 years ago the "bug" hit me. I don't know why; I just got curious. My education is in engineering, my current job is as a researcher, and I've got about 30 years or so of experience with simulation. Absolutely no education or background in Nature Studies or even biology. I do have a decades-long personal interest in biological evolution - have read books on it, attended debates, read journal articles, etc.
