Lateral petals bearded.
Spurred petal glabrous.
Calex eciliolate.
Auricles short and round.
Leaves twice as long as wide, minutely pubescent adaxially.

Petioles of new leaves pubescent.
Rhizome short and thick.
Non-stoloniferous.

Unknown Viola growing in Pin Oak /Swamp White Oak dominated bottomland flatwoods.
Not V. affinis. No beard on spurred petal.
Not V. communis. Leaves too elongate, petioles become hirsute later in season.
Not V. cucullata. Blooming too early, hairs to long and not clavate, peduncles prostrate and among the leaves.
Not V. sororia. Petioles of early leaves glabrous, leaves too elongate, calyx ecilliate.
