On a fallen cottonwood
In riparian woodland of cottonwood, birch, maple. Sandy soils.
At the base of a cottonwood. Dark purplish-brown spores. Going with inat’s suggestion of Psathyrellaceae, I did get that impression when in the field but I have no solid basis for that.
We've had a lot of rain lately. Our yard has lots of moss and plenty of sun.
