Description

Wood Pigeon
near Altares,
Terceira Island,
Azores,
Portugal
16 July 2013

This species is common and widespread all across the island of Terceira, but is quite wary and difficult to photograph. We saw many hundreds, but only got a few snapshots.

We spent a week on the island of Terceira in the Azores from 15-22 July, 2013. The Azores are a group of 9 small islands owned by Portugal, about 900 miles out in the Atlantic from Portugal. The plant and animal fauna is basically European, but there are many introduced plants I am told. The island of Terceira is approx. 10 X 18 miles in size with two cities and many towns and about 56,000 inhabitants.
