strange day yesterday.. the rising sun was blocked by clouds causing the red sunrise on the horizon to hang around until about 10:30am. Because of the red sky I went to the overlook at Joe Pool Lake for my morning hike.... many birds out and about both on the shore and in the water.

This is a water bird of some sort

At first I thought maybe a grebe due to its small size. but all the grebes that fit this coloring are not normal for this area. Then I thought maybe immature loon. but they are closest in appearance to the immature red neck loon... again not common for this area., and I think these birds are too small.... They were delicate in size and were smaller than the American Coots... actually making them appear to be chunky.
