Happy Holidays and Hornets!

Although we have started our year of invertebrate discovery at a challenging time (since most invertebrates are not around or evident during these colder months of the year), there is still plenty for us to look for. This winter we'll focus on insect signs. For December, we would love to learn where in the City you find old hornet or wasp nests.

Look for large, gray "papery" bald-faced hornets nests hanging from trees,

Search for smaller gray paper wasp nests tucked under eaves or porch roofs,

And see if you can locate smaller nests of mud dauber wasps in the same locations. Send in your pictures and let us know what you're finding.

Happy hunting and Happy Holidays!
