New Species in October

October has been a busy month. A number of new species have been heard for the first time, including:

i) Yoyetta repetens - Zipping Ambertail
ii) Yoyetta cumberlandi - Cumberland Ambertail
iii) Pauropsalta notialis - Southern Red-eyed Squeaker
iv) Pauropsalta rubea - Red Squeaker
v) Pauropsalta mneme - Alarm Clock Squawker
vi) Pauropsalta fuscata - Bark Squeaker
vii) Pauropsalta corticinus - Border Rangers Squeaker

The first Green Grocer cicadas have been heard this week calling around Ryde and Glenorie. This could be a great season for cicadas. Thanks to everyone who has contributed this month. We're starting to get some momentum!

It's been a busy time for cicadas at the Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan where I work. So far I have recorded six different species there!

I took some photos of the P. fuscata I caught from North Rothbury last week. You can see what it looks like here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/flannelfotos/22356993616/

Myself and my friend Alan also started surveying for cicadas in a couple of Cumberland Plain Woodland vegetation communities in different Nature Reserves. We plan to survey every 3 weekends. If you would like to help us out by volunteering to survey then let me know!

Keep your ears out, and please keep adding observations!!
