serpentine; the little baby trees in the second photo are at the base of the burned tree in the first photo (baby trees are about 6"-8" tall as of the date of this photo). These would be sprouts following the second wildfire to sweep this ridge -- the 2020 Glass Fire. The first fire was 2017 Nun's Fire. Glass caused much more devastation to this park and the serpentine habitat here -- the vegetation was just getting into it's third season of recovery when the Glass Fire hit -- a VERY fast hot fire that swept over from the Napa Valley in less than 45 minutes. Park amenities are still being replaced (burned map panels and trail way-signs). The back-country campground and historic site both burned in 2017. I have been active with this park, specifically this Johnson Ranch addition of the park, regularly since this portion was opened in about 2008. We continue to clean-up and build trails in new additional acquisitions.

Found on a Spring foray with the Snohomish County Mycological Society. while everyone was picking Verpa, I'm o'er yonder crawling around in the ferns looking for stuff like this lol
I took a lot of photos of this thing & I can't say that I am particularly pleased with any of them. Also, I'm lost on what this observation should even be labeled as anyways..
