Not a chipmunk expert. Please comment if you feel this is right or wrong. Identified based on lack of distinct black side strips (as in yellow-pine), crispy black-and-white facial stripe, white patch behind ear, and gray atop head.

While surveying birds for the Audubon Christmas bird count, we drove past two otters who were on the bank of the Little Pigeon river. After we stopped the car, they slid into the water, one keeping an eye on us from the far bank.

The underside is distinctly yellow, but this weasel doesn't have the facial markings of a Long-tailed weasel. A juvenile perhaps or is it a Short tailed Weasel?? My recollection is that the black tail tip was quite small.
