Psyllobora ladybeetles mating


Possible sexual dimorphism.Photographed 2 pairs of mating beetles and in both cases the male had a white pronotum and the female a yellow one.The elyntra was yellow with black spots in all beetles.In the second pair the male was definately smaller than the female (which is about 3.5mm)Found on Leonotis leonurus.

Addendum - An aphidial smorgasbord

So the aphids suck on the oak leaves and process oak juice into honeydew (now there's a euphemism what ho!) which attracts a whole bunch of insects as well as sooty moulds which attracts another suite of insects. Thrilling!

Description

Bizarre! I saw this mole rat cross the tar road during peak traffic. On the outskirts of Durbanville, completely outside its mormal distribution range. Photo taken in the road verge, next to vineyards, with residential houses <100m away. It was quite aggressive too! I used my cellphone cover to steer it towards open ground so that I could get a better picture. But it attacked my phone cover with its teeth. Quite funny!

Giant scale (24mm long) often called 'Snowball Giant Mealybug' This one has matured to the point where the covering of 'snow' (white fluff) is gone. It was found on the trunk of a large, broad leafed acacia and very close to a huge ladybird larva (yet to be identified - previous sighting) Possibly predator and prey next sighting.
