Found within a sandy remanent and my first time observing this species!!

Augochlorini bees were foraging upon this individual, while Bumblebees, Bombus sp., were observed foraging on other Clasping Milkweed within this site. Additionally, ants were also observed foraging.

In photos 1 & 6, two old stems from two previous years can seen.

The glossy upper surface of the leaf, and the pointed leaf, are two traits I saw amongst seedlings in the forest.

Also present were small plants with blunt leaves with a dull upper surface and a lower surface scarcely or not at all pubescent, not even along the leaf veins. They look just like Smilax hugeri except for the lack of pubescent on the underside of the leaf. In the past I have identified these plants as Smilax biltmoreana. I was hoping to find some of these in flower, but so far no such plants with flowers have been found.
