First iNaturalist record.

With Graham Armstrong, Pete Ellis, Steve Guy, Guy Langan, Paul Harvey, Phil Heath, Ian Lewis.

Seen for more than an hour after dawn, in a small loose group of Eur. Curlews, feeding in a short-grass field on the south side of the main lake. This was "limpy" - the bird that had been shot about 3 weeks earlier, but seemed to make a recovery.

This location is the last known wintering site for this species. The last record from here was in February 1995.

Here is a link to the last video taken at this site, in January 1995:

Observed while blacklighting during the 2023 South Florida City Nature Challenge (CNCSOFLO). I set up three sheets in this area as described below. Moon at 60% illumination, winds weak. This observation is from the first sheet.

1: Near bathroom, facing parking area/pines to the north and pines to the south. Lit by Bioquip blacklight (connected to electrical outlet in bathroom with long extension cable) and two cheapy DJ blacklights connected to USB battery packs.

Spotted and identified by Steve Woodmansee when we were walking back to the truck after working in the HID. This would be the first record for Miami-Dade according to the Florida Plant Atlas: https://florida.plantatlas.usf.edu/Genus.aspx?id=357
I almost convinced Steve to change the route we walked, which would have led us away from this area, so I'm glad he stuck to the original plan!
