Taken on Lake Creek Trail in northwest Austin, Williamson County.
I've been birding Lake Creek Trail since about 2005, before it was an official trail. And still sometimes I learn something that blows my mind! This morning at one of the low water crossings I met a family with two boys, about 4 and 6. One told me, "We have a pet snake here." And I thought to myself, "Yeah, yeah kid." Then the parents arrived and they all proceded to catch some small gambusia and hand-feed them to one specific snake who seemed unafraid of them! Mom told me, "We are a very snake-friendly family." Awesome!
It was a good reminder that snakes are more discerning than we might think. Maybe they can remember and recognize people like other animals!

I thought this was a snake at first. Is this the Texas Alligator Lizard? It was in the middle of a path, and quickly ran off into the leaf debris.

This vulture lived in a courtyard area of Westwood High School for about a year and a half. It layed it egg near one of the classroom windows and it started threatening students so the school closed it off with caution tape. The baby grew up and once construction started for the 16-17 school year the vulture left. In the hallway I took these photos. It is not in captivity it was just outside the window
