Spotted an Ampulex wasp earlier in the day, went back there, saw more than one wasp then spotted the immobile cockroach and sat and waited to see if a wasp would find the 'roach. One did, think that the 'roach had been stung a while before I saw it. Think that the photos tell the rest of the story!
Just over 13 minutes from seeing the immobile'roach to it disappearing into the crevice.

Bucky-ball maker from hell

I caught 2 undersized (infected) larvae 'bungeeing' prematurely on their silken threads down from the food tree (Kiggelaria africana) and stuck them in the 'wasp bottle'.

They crawled up the side overnight and settled close together, securing themselves with silk as if ready for pupation.

Incredibly the pale wasp larva ate its way out of one and spent about an hour (see times on pics) cocooning itself for its own pupation. Amazingly strong, the wasplet forced the still living butterfly larva from its silken bonds to give itself room. That larva actually fell to the floor of the bottle and has now crawled up onto a leaf.

This was one of those strange and unusual sights that you're not quite sure is taking place. A duck eating a fish!
It was a little before 9 o'clock, a December morning and here this yellow-billed duck suddenly had this decent sized fish in its mouth. For quite some time it attempted to get it nicely positioned to swallow it. Not so easy. It dropped it over and over which makes me think the fish had to already be dead. When the Yellow-billed duck mate came close it pretty much paid no attention yet the one with the fish tried frantically to swallow its catch. At that time, back in 2015, I did inquire from the birding fraternity around Jhb if they'd seen anything like this and apparently not! What type of fish I'm not sure.. maybe a bream..
