First Barred I've seen this winter and because of the choice of perches, I'm believing it's the same owl that was a frequent visitor last year.
Impressive cultivated stand, in a commercial garden. The biggest Persicaria I have ever seen, as tall as the tallest sunflowers, over 12 feet tall, almost as tall as the building.
In a field where the Canada Geese are nesting and probably harvesting eggs.
A curiosity for me in these images is that foxes seem to be able to turn their ears from concave to convex.
Mating. Female was identified in previous observation.
The closer of the two on the branch is a male. (See next observation). Here, I am identifying the female with a darker face and neck.
Black-tipped tail (photo 3) that's about 1/3 its overall body length and small, rounded ears.
Hunting a small opening in the woods and moving to another perch to change vantage.
A newly-excavated Red-bellied Woodpecker cavity has been discovered by a European Starling. The male and female Red-bellied are both visible in this photo and the male is trying to pull the Starling out of the nest by its foot.
Fast. Short-legged. Weasel-sized. Hunting along the banks of the brook among the boulders and fallen trees.
An amazing population, in full bloom, in a special spot
Two egrets had a scuffle for some reason.
About 4 feet long; Rather aggressive and unhappy that I disturbed it when moving brush and firewood
