Mighty hot and pretty windy, but Monahans blacklighting was still wonderful. I had about 3 stations set up in the sand dunes and quite a few really interesting critters showed up.
Still some work to do on ID's -- will spend more time on these after I upload.

Drive through a bit of snow and ice this morning to head west for an urban wildlife staff meeting over in Alpine!!! Had a nice drive and made several stops along the way. :)
Monahans Sand Dunes State Park is so unique -- despite being still pretty cold, lots of birds were out! Spotted some neat things here today!

Very confused, was as big or bigger than my Vizsla and the exact same color (golden brown) - didn't get a good look at the tail, but it was large with a distinctive head shape and swam fast. Perhaps an escaped capybara from an exotic game ranch? Or maybe just a massive Nutria or beaver? Not sure!

Description
Continuing rarity originally found and reported by Tripp Davenport on 19 May 2019. Refound and reported by others on 20 May 2019. Had not been to West Texas before since I've been interested in Dragonflies. The main goal was searching for western specialties (or at least those I can't observe in Austin) but remembered that this species was reported nearby and decided to look for it. To my surprise, we found it almost a month later in the same general area on 23 June 2019.
According to a local landowner, it had rained 5 inches a few days prior to this observation so a lot of the low water crossings were running full. As a result, there weren't as many exposed rocks but found the Tezpi very close to the road. Observed almost the entire time on the same rock in direct sunlight in a rocky stream with little vegetation.
