Very large tree, approximately 60 feet tall with a 1.5-2 foot wide trunk. Rough, grey bark (shallow furrows) with red/brown inner bark. Lichen on bark. Trunk flare at bottom. Alternately arranged pinnately compound leaves. Leaflets do not exceed 3-4 cm. Stout, stiff, sharp dark red/brown thorns on trunk and upper branches. Large canopy; branches start half way up the tree (out of reach).
