Description
Velvety undersides of leaves. Growing at the edge between a seep and a sugar maple/basswood/tulip poplar forest. The latter seems pretty rich based on the community type and its ground flora but I'm unsure of the substrate.

Unidentified #1. Not really sure what species. Lower leaves opposite, stalkless or nearly so; upper alternate. A good 7' tall, I think. An actively managed meadow habitat at a wildlife preserve.

Description
Growing with both parents, Q. falcata & Q. ilicifolia.
Hybrid named after New Jersey, and photographed in New Jersey. So nice.
Thanks to Gerry Moore, USDA NRCS, for bringing me to this site.
[Note in October 2021: after several years of people checking these oaks for acorns, they never seem to produce them, suggesting that this may be a sterile hybrid. The type specimen lacks acorns and original description lacks any description of them as well.]
