WHILE EATING BREKKY BEFORE VISITING THE ZOO THIS OLD MATE STOPED TO SAY HEY
Found alive, we killed it. I reported it to lanternfly@illinois.edu.
While doing homework on a bench, this chipmunk jumped on to see what I was doing. I let her take a look but she only got to the search bar and gave up. So I put on some of my chipmunk pictures for her to see. Posed for observation https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/129984459
Aberrant individual
Drama. These guys all normally get along pretty well, but here a squirrel decided to start something and nearly got kicked in the head as reward. Moments later they were back to munching sunflower seeds side-by-side again.
Raccoon (Procyon lotor), aka Common Raccoon, North American Raccoon, and Northern Raccoon - Montrose Point Bird Sanctuary - Lincoln Park, Chicago Park District, Chicago, IL
Fully Leucistic bird observed at my backyard feeder with two regular coloured common redpoll. Little to no streaking, pure white wings and under tail coverts.
Baby climbed my leg.
Adults and egg masses
Is there a dove? An all white pigeon? I’m not sure.
Kestrel nestlings, at least 3 of them. Taken from >100 feet away. The first one fledged 4 days later: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/177912790
This appears to be the juvenile male exploring its surroundings and checking out how branches work. A juvenile female was nearby, supervising.
male and female perched. Juvenile male flying - incorrect - see comment by @roboraptor below
Checkerspot was all puffed up today! Haven't seen him/her for a little while.
Drinking from the water fountain
Coyotes vocalizing in response to passing emergency vehicle sirens.
Twirling a stick, apparently for fun
The parent never did bring food. There is a rotting log beneath them and the parent kept jumping down to it and then back up. Appeared to be trying to teach the baby how to forage for itself. Eventually the parent grew impatient and knocked the chick off of the branch and behind the log.
What da squirrel doin?
Frick Has A Girlfriend!!!
Introducing Frick & Frack!
Frick called her in early this morning. She is larger & her voice is the higher pitched one. With all that canoodling going on, they are already a couple apparently. She stayed about 3 minutes then left around 5:00 this morning. Frick was in and out of the house overnight and he last left around 6:45 am. No one stayed inside for the day. My fingers are crossed he can convince her this is the place to raise babies.

Fell out of a tree into the river on the eastern side of the trestle, seemingly asleep. Woke up, swam to safety, then returned to another adjacent tree.
Climbing onto me pressing for food, using bicycle as jumping platform onto my arms
Observation is for the one in the first pic, who gets the bread.
AHY; Bilateral Gynandromorph bird
Most images taken from FB post from Powdermill Nature Reserve as they were cleaner than those captured by my phone
first shot could be an advert for angry birds ;-)
Juvenile calling / chirping from tree cavity. Didn't see a parent for the 10-15 minutes while I was observing.
I took one pic and ran, this squirrel looked serious.
outch! 😆
also, almost the first bird on my 'indoors'-list
Incoming...hey why isn't the bag open??? He finally started pecking at my finger,(last frame).
you enter the bathroom, expecting nothing unusual, but unknowingly, your bumhole is met with a pair of soulless eyes staring back at it.
as you start to sit down, you hear something slosh in the water beneath you.
you jump up, startled.
as you peer into the toilet bowl, you see him, the prince of wadda mooli himself.
you pay your respects and escort him outdoors–back to his kingdom
you then reclaim your porcelain throne
The nest is in the top of a tall fence post missing its cap.
Fledging?
One of the best things I’ve seen while tracking recently! It’s the marking left by an eastern cottontail taking a dust bath. I’ve included the same photo from 4 different angles so it can be fully appreciated it.
Pyrrhuloxia...um....Northern Cardinal...um....both! It flew off but we were able to find it later and get an assemblage of photos that show various parts of the bird. I thought maybe it was just a pigment-ally or sexually challenged Cardinal but am back again thinking a hybrid. The beak color & shape as well as the black mask and red face are all good for Cardinal. It was also singing identically to what I would expect from a Cardinal. The gray back of head, mantle, part of wings are good for Pyrrhuloxia as is the bleeding red down the center of the grayish-white underparts.
I believe this is the most neat observation I have personally captured. In this photo, we see a squirrel enjoying a taco shell which seems to be as large as the squirrel itself.
