Description

One of several very mature small trees on site.Which had reasonably recently dropped numerous fruits, many still partly enclosed by the dark brown-black outer fleshy pithy layer, which was thin, very dry and quite tough to peel off the stones.Despite already having partially separated naturally from the stones( ie the flesh had developed fissures or tears as it dried out, exposing the stones within) I found the dessicated flesh quite resistant to attempts to peel off the remainder. It was not as brittle as it looked. ( None were collected, for the record ,which would have been illegal 😐).
WRT colour, some of the most recently dropped fruits included a tinge of drab dark red, almost dark brick red-brown, rather similar to the colour of ripe Bitter Quandong fruits (which are usually smaller and don't occur in the area concerned; I mention this colour aspect for the record, because few people -certainly me anyway- get to see such a plethora of dropped Sandalwood fruits in this day and age. Quite a privilege. )

(Nb:wide 2nd image includes an Acacia tetregonophylla 'Dead Finish ' ,the tall prickly shrub at background top R)
