What a great find! A devil's walking stick in bloom growing in woods uphill off the Boulder Trail in Turnipseed Nature Preserve in east Wake county. The blooms were very popular with swallowtail butterflies and wasps.

Description
One single plant, 1 meter high, at the edge of a forest. I assume the individual of Falcatifolium taxoides it was using as a host was the large one about 1.5 meters away, which was also the largest Falcatifolium I've seen yet (about 8" diameter trunk). Most have been scrawny. 600 m elevation.

Could be A. arborea, but elevation & reddish new leaves suggest A. laevis.
