Description

Parents look like house finches. On 6/4 I saw the female sitting on the nest sometimes during the day. When the female was gone, I saw the male feeding the nestlings. There are at least 3 babies, possibly 4. They had their eyes closed so I think they are about 2 days old.

UPDATES: Photo #2 from 5/16 shows female on the nest, Photo #3 from 5/16 shows male visiting the nest. Photo #4 shows the nestlings on 6/7 where you can see poop on the top edge of the nest. I'm estimating they are about 5 days in that photo. On 6/9, you can see the pin feathers on their wings and if you look carefully you can see the crops on some of the birds. I wonder if those perfectly round balls are the gizzard stones or just seeds.

On 6/17 a hawk was observed perched on the nest and then flew away, destroying the nest in the process (the last photo shows the nest debris and one of the egg shells on the ground). It was unclear if it caught any chicks, but later we found several small feathers about 5 yards away from the nest. The feathers were all partly sheathed:

Two days after the nest was attacked we found a fledgling hiding in a rosebush that is 4 feet away from the nest. I wonder if it was from this nest:
