Found in a rocky streambed that is part of the Little Red River / White River drainage basin in the Ozark foothills. Stream flow ranges from intermittent flow to rain-runoff flood flow. Stream bottom is very rocky (layers of loose flat rock) interspersed with small gravel and sporadic red clay.

Does not appear to be a primary burrower. Do not build tall "chimneys". Have observed them using natural crevices for burrows with some "remodeling" under rocks by moving gravel and clay as needed.
