Captured and released 2 Leopard frogs that were both spotted in small fields with long, tall grass. One of them was missing it’s front left forelimb (not harmed during the capture!!). Both had a white throat / inner thighs leading me to believe they were females. The one with the missing forelimb was actually larger, approx. 7cm from head to urostyle (HTU), with the smaller one being approx. 4-5cm HTU.
Found pecking at a dead tree in search of grub for a meal (and successfully so!). Preliminary method for finding good spots to peck at seemed to be by vision as it cocked and bobbed its head all over the place at various angles between intermittent pecking sessions. To escalate quickly up the tree once done feeding, it ran up the trunk using its legs and flapped its wings to keep its balance and maintain ‘downforce’ against the tree trunk (photo provided at the end).
Found a rose bush infested with these invasive beetles. I was able to find a pair mating on one of the flowers.
Spotted a couple of Turkey Vultures soaring and thermalling by the waterfront in close proximity not even 40ft up. Key Features: 1) Bald head clearly visible due to close proximity. 2) Characteristic “wobbly” or “rocky” flight of a vulture. 3) Wings held up in a dihedral v-shape while soaring. 4) Distinct, two-toned wings. They were most-likely taking advantage of the updrafts at the shore as well as the “Sea Breeze” coming off the water to stay aloft effortlessly. They were also thermalling over small patches of field.
2 Rabbits in a park. Larger one was closer. Seemed more at-ease around human presence, even when only ~6ft away. Smaller one was much more skittish, running away from me even from 50+ft of distance.
