This North American Porcupine crossed Meadow Branch Ave and wandered into some green space on the east side of the road. A slow-moving, fat mammal covered in sharp quills. This is the first live porcupine that I've seen in Virginia. I picked up a porcupine that had been hit by a car on VA 55 near the Hardy County, WV border about 15 years ago. That specimen is in the Smithsonian Institute.

Was circling one of the water treatment ponds that contained a swimming kangaroo. After the dog fled us the exhausted kangaroo swam to shore and sat for at least 15 minutes neck deep. To exhausted to climb out of the treatment pond.
