Description

Part of the northwestern subspecies. Characterized by the extensive white speckling in the crown, white back with narrow black barring, a bold post-ocular stripe, and little black on the outer rectrices. Resident from Alaska through BC, east through central Alberta and Saskatchewan, and south into southern Oregon, northern Idaho, and northwestern Montana.

Description

Found in the dry mixed grass in an area with many blowouts. Stems where strongly joined and very straight. Stems had milky juice and where sticky when broken. Flowers where all similar in a light pink color and had 5 petals with 3-5 knotches at the tips of each petal. Plant was found on a more productive site but seen throughout the area. Nearby species included western wheatgrass and scarlet mallow.

Description

This plant has larger leaves growing on the bottom, and smaller ones towards the top of the plant. The leaves do not grow along the entire length of the stem. They end towards the top and are replaced by clusters of small yellow flowers. The leaves themselves are a pale green and fuzzy. They have jagged edges which are more pronounced on the larger leaves. This plant grows on the dry prairie, and is native to this area.

Description

located to the east of the water building at the University of Lethbridge. Plant has hairy thin oblong leaves. Stem is hairy. Flowers are purple with pink stamens protruding out. Bush is approximately a foot wide in diameter and about a foot tall. Surrounded by grassy area. Plant is invasive to the area.
