Seen crossing the flooded section of the road. Kind of surprised at how chill it was.
second individual !!
I am a herpetologist There have been confirmed sightings of alligators in South Fayette County in the wolf River area. But this may be the first confirmed sighting in the Loosahatchie river, but this has been suspected for sometime and is referred to in the recent publication reptiles and amphibians of Tennessee. It’s good to have a confirmation.
Only one caught for the day. Squeaked as I was lifting my net up. Was fairly calm for a siren.
Mole Kingsnake about 24 to 30 inches long.
Finally got a cottonmouth in my home county this year- did nearly step on it, but thankfully I didn't! It was closer than the snake or I would've like it to be.
Isolated wetland, long cycle hydroperiod, Cephalanthus occidentalis, Rhododendron spp., Vaccinium spp. and Kalmia latifolia, Nyssa spp. Acer rubrum, Liquidambar styraciflua community
Western Lesser Siren being eaten by a Great Egret!
A small young one. Possibly a recent metamorph from this years eggs. Was honestly pretty shocked but happy to see one.
WHY ARE THERE SO MANY
The target species for the day! The largest siren I have ever seen, yes I do realize there are larger species, but this one was thick and long. Super happy I was finally able to get one in TN.
FOS in my driveway
Found by a friend of mine.
It was caught in a roadside ditch by a Great Blue Heron. In the first pic you can see one of the front legs. In the 2nd pic the heron is holding the siren by it’s leg. There's additional pics and a short video of the encounter here: https://ebird.org/checklist/S160276041
This observation is for the leopard frog on the left. Wildlander ended up finding it a few feet away from the pickerel so decided to get a comparison shot. Note the bold worm creeping up in the second pic.
Recently deceased: it was in a hemlock I was cutting up.
First tiger of 2024!
Was debating going out for the night and I'm glad @wp_herping convinced me because as soon as I got to the spot, I saw this individual crossing the road.
apparently they can dilate each pupil separately!
Found under a log.

Cute bugger. Found my cats blind spot lol
I got 3 hours of sleep, but it was soooo worth it.
Found at the base of rock wall in Tishomingo SP.
I see nine on the wall of the Ranger Station. Maybe they catch moths and other bugs attracted to a porch light at night?
Super shocked to see this one using artificial cover. Had to fish it put to get a proper ID and am glad I did.
!!!!
Located at Fire Tower ILF
LIFER!
Found by another in the group but I pointed out to check the legs and sure enough, no orange on them (2nd pic)
Was walking through the creek when I see this sight! I always love watching feeding behavior with wild snakes. It just sucks it had to be red salamander larva.
This observation is for the larva in the snakes mouth.
First one of the year for me :)
Macon County.
Found in a wetland crawling across mud.
My first Timber Rattlesnake!!! Man, this snake was HARD to find around here.
Sumner County
Another individual. Was smaller than the other I saw at the spot. Such a beautiful species.
I may Private this one after a bit.
Not my photo. Friend ran it over 😥😥😥
Stuck on road. Tail was run over. Snapped tail off and moved off the road. Scurried off in grass.

Underwater in a creek, eating a crayfish.
Lizard of some sort
Approximately 35 eggs masses. Likely appeared earlier in the week.
Male
Today a group of Virginia Tech students, Virginia Tech professor - Kevin Hamed, Tennessee State University professor - Bill Sutton, TDEC State Zoologist - David Withers, and Metro Park staff, studied Poplar Creek to check out how our population of the state endangered Streamside Salamander, ambystoma barbouri, are doing.
Bells Bend Park currently holds the westernmost population in Tennessee. Up until today, larvae and eggs had been spotted multiple times but never an adult. Today TWO adults were found!
Very unfortunate DOR, but it was interesting to see evidence of a coral snake eating a coral snake mimic. I will post a separate observation for the scarlet snake
This observation is for the snake that was inside the DOR coral snake
