In 2020 Nukus Balyk fish hatchery (Nukus, Karakalpakstan, Uzbekistan) was registered as Amu Darya shovelnose sturgeons propagation facility. It provided the Amu Darya shovelnose conservation project (https://life-on-earth.ru/amu-darya-and-syr-darya-shovelnose-sturgeons/amu-darya-shovelnose-sturgeons-conservation-uzbekistan) with a line of recirculating aquaculture system (RAS). Water in the system is refreshed from the Amu Darya river through a canal.
It"s the first step towards Amu Darya shovelnose sturgeons propagation and conservation efforts.
Nukus Balyk fish hatchery (Nukus, Karakalpakstan, Uzbekistan) is opened for visiting to watch Amu Darya shovelnose sturgeons on preliminary arrangement. Addrress and the contact are mentioned below.
The Amu Darya shovelnose sturgeons Conservation Project in Nukus currently needs the following equipment:
EHEIM Universal 3400 water pump

A truly amazing encounter with one of the world's most enigmatic ungulates. When I first saw this Pygmy Hippo, it was resting on the ground a few meters off the trail, covered with sweat droplets. After about an hour of waiting, it got up and slowly walked through the forest. It did not appear to mind my presence.

Location approximate
An isolated population living in ancient cisterns. This sector is home to the purest population of P. cerigensis on the continent as they are isolated from P. caralitanus (East) and from the Agean lineages of P. bedriagae (West) by relief.

A juvenile of Acipenser mikadoi caught as bycatch in the lower stream of Tumnin River in June 2008 (juveniles of Acipenser mikadoi are living and developing in Tumnin River for several years before going to sea);
the photos 6-15:
Females of Acipenser mikadoi caught in the lower stream of Tumnin River during spawning period in May-June 2008 for conservation purposes (propagation);
the photos 16-20:
Eggs of Acipenser mikadoi on various stages of development (2015). The eggs were got from a wild female caught in the lower stream of Tumnin River in June 2015 and were fertilized by sperm which were got from males of 2008 generation - a result of propagation of wild females and males from Tumnin River in 2008. The photos of eggs were taken in June 2015 in Anyuy Fishery of the Russian Fishery Agency in Nanay People Area (Khabarovsk Region, Russia) about 600 km from the spawning area of Acipenser mikadoi in Tumnin River. The reserve groups of several generations of Acipenser mikadoi are kept in Anyuy Fishery as a result of conservation efforts initiated in 2007 by Viktor Khrisanfov - an eminent sturgeon specialist in cooperation with Alexey Chernyak.

These may be the only live photos of this rare endemic Hawaiian pipefish. It was found in shallow water a few feet deep in weed right in front of the Waikiki Aquarium by one of the aquarium staff, photographed in a tank (by me), and then returned to the reef. It is so rare that even the famed ichthyologist Dr. John E Randall, who dived and collected fish in Hawaii for over 50 years, writes that he never saw one.

I know this species isn't officially registered in Bolivia yet, but this individual found in the market in Riberalta (before released back into the wild) lacks the ventral stripe you'd expect for C. catellus. If the ID is correct, this individual would indicate that C. rufus is not endemic to Brazil, and that Cyclopes is presented by at least two species.
sharp little claws, beautiful color.
As per Vincent Vos of Bolivia and Flávia Miranda of Brazil, both are in agreement that this animal is indeed 'cyclopes thomasi' of the family Cyclopedidae. It is NOT
'didactylus'.
In addition, this register is the only known find of Cyclopes thomasi in Peru!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Exciting!
Saliña Sint Marie, Jan Kok, Curaçao. Large schools present in the shallows of the saliña, with several spawning pairs observed.
The sole South American Cyprinodontinae species (as currently recognized) and the only South American pupfish outside of the endemic genus Orestias of the Andean altiplano. However, taxon C. dearborni is paraphyletic and has been applied to all similar-looking Cyprinodon of Northern South America (Haney, Turner, & Rand, 2009). The monophyly of C. dearborni is clearly rejected by molecular data which shows that the taxon consists of two lineages (with possibly more undescribed); one is a long-term South American endemic and basal member of Cyprinodon, whereas the other is a more recent colonizer of the ‘maritime clade’ related to the widespread C. variegatus.
Haney, R. A., Turner, B. J., & Rand, D. M. (2009). A cryptic lineage within the pupfish Cyprinodon dearborni suggests multiple colonizations of South America. Journal of fish biology, 75(5), 1108–1114.
