Unfortunately this little guy is infected with the zombie parasite. I tried to put it down so it wouldn’t spread to the others in the colony but it fell far down into the garden and I could t reach it. This parasite comes from infected birds and when the snails eat their droppings they get infected that way. The birds find snails a tasty treat and so they usually hang out where many can be found. The parasite takes over the snails mind causing them to stay out in plain view during the daytime and the worm pulses out of its eye stalk to attract a bird to pluck it out. Unfortunately the eyestalk grows back and another worm emerges. This must be so painful for them. I have a large colony of these living wild in my gardens. I try to put them down quickly so it doesn’t spread when I find an infected one. :(
