adkonings chriswbrown Genus Corynopuntia

several of the species are also listed under Grusonia. The research by Fenstermacher 2016 shows that at least 5 of the species now also listed under Grusonia are better placed in Corynopuntia: aggeria, grahamii, schottii, emoryi, and densispina.

The species C. densispina has not yet been listed but was proven by Fenstermacher 2016 to be a valid taxon distinguished from C. emoryi and C. grahamii.

I've mapped between Plants of the World Online (POWO) and Lode below:
POWO = Lode
.Grusonia = Corynopuntia, Micropuntia, Grusonia
..Grusonia bradtiana = Grusonia bradtiana
..Grusonia aggeria = Corynopuntia aggeria
..Grusonia bulbispina = Corynopuntia bulbispina, C. bulbispina basileocephala, C. bulbispina bulbispina
..Grusonia clavata = Corynopuntia clavata
..Grusonia emoryi = Corynopuntia emoryi
..Grusonia grahamii = Corynopuntia agglomerata, Corynopuntia grahamii
..Grusonia guccinii = Corynopuntia guccini
..Grusonia invicta = Corynopuntia invicta
..Grusonia kunzei = Corynopuntia kunzei
..Grusonia reflexispina, Grusonia marenae = Corynopuntia marenae
..Grusonia moelleri = Corynopuntia moelleri
..= Corynopuntia nigrispina (unplaced in POWO)
..Grusonia parishiorum = Corynopuntia parishii
..Grusonia robertsii = Corynopuntia robertsii
..Grusonia schottii = Corynopuntia schottii
..Grusonia vilis = Corynopuntia vilis
..Grusonia pulchella = Micropuntia barkleyana, M. brachyrhopalica, M. pulchella, M. pygmaea, M. tuberculosirhopalica, M. wiegandii

What we have here on iNaturalist at the moment is a bit of a mix of the two with some duplication. Can folks provide clarity on what our desired result is for this clade? ie 100% Lode, 100% POWO, or some mix and if so what? Once thats settled, we can get the iNat taxonomy in line with what we want and create the appropriate deviation from POWO. I don't know enough about the recent research to have a preference, but @aspidoscelis might...

I have no knowledge or opinion on Micropuntia.

With regard to Corynopuntia / Grusonia, I think Fenstermacher (Phytoneuron 2016-1) is the best resource for species-level taxonomy for the species she covers (as Corynopuntia) but that the segregation of Corynopuntia from Grusonia is not really tenable at this point. At the time of her publication, there was support for monophyly of Corynopuntia but not for the monophyly of the species remaining in Grusonia (and I don't think it really made sense to treat Corynopuntia in isolation). Since then, a couple of additional phylogenetic analyses either fail to provide resolution in this group (Majure et al. 2019; American Journal of Botany 106(10): 1327-1345) or provide evidence that Corynopuntia and Grusonia are not reciprocally monophyletic (Bárcenas 2016; Cladistics 32: 351-359).
