Kyphosus sandwicensis is not a valid name. Knudsen and Clements (2013) showed that the type specimen of K. sandwicensis was referable to Kyphosus elegans. Jack Randall used the name widely for the worldwide taxon Kyphosus sectatrix. |

Thank you @loarie. Much appreciated. I'm sure that @kendallclements is all over it. :)
Thank you @kendallclements :)
I created a taxon change which inactivated Kyphosus sandwicensis and made it a synonym of Kyphosus elegans https://www.inaturalist.org/taxon_changes/85140, and here's the deviation from Fishbase https://www.inaturalist.org/taxon_framework_relationships/48747
But as discussed offline, this has the unideal side effect of replacing misID's of Kyphosus sandwicensis with misID's of Kyphosus elegans on observations that should be ID'd as Kyphosus sectatrix.
Any help adding IDs of K. sectatrix to observations misID'd as Kyphosus sandwicensis or Kyphosus elegans much appreciated https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/identify?quality_grade=needs_id%2Cresearch&taxon_id=103742%2C318462
