Yes, this swap does seem to have been an error. There is no way to reverse it but I have removed Leptodeira septentrionalis ornata from the synonymy of Leptodeira septentrionalis and made it a synonym of Leptodeira ornata.
@felipe_barrerao I have tagged @loarie on the original swap in case there is some way to retrieve the affected records
Wasn't an error, just that RD changes over the years. See https://www.inaturalist.org/flags/583522
@loarie So there is no way to mark specimens previously identified as Leptoderira septentrionalis in Colombia as Leptodeira ornata because of the replace with Leptodeira septentrionalis?
I see here that in this observation (https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/43314203) it wasn't even identified as a subspecies and the change was made automatically.
L. annulata ashmeadii changed as L. septentrionalis ornata should have

Thanks for the attention.
Hi Felipe,
Yes, we need to split one or more of the species. To do that we need to know the relative distributions. We're following Reptile Database for the list of Leptodeira, but RD doesn't have explicit ranges.
IUCN does but they are using a different taxonomy
IUCN has range maps for these species:
Leptodeira punctata
Leptodeira rubricata
Leptodeira bakeri
Leptodeira uribei
Leptodeira frenata
Leptodeira maculata
Leptodeira nigrofasciata
Leptodeira septentrionalis
Leptodeira splendida
Leptodeira annulata
But not these species:
Leptodeira larcorum
Leptodeira misinawui
Leptodeira ornata
Leptodeira polysticta
Leptodeira tarairiu
Leptodeira rhombifera
Leptodeira ashmeadii
If you could help determine how the species IUCN doesn't have map to the IUCN species (e.g. Leptodeira ornata carved off from Leptodeira septentrionalis etc.) and also how you'd carve up these maps (for me its easiest to do if someone actually annotates a screenshot of the IUCN maps ie https://www.inaturalist.org/flags/507004) that would be very helpful
Let me see if I understood.
I did a map of the Leptodeira septentrionalis complex as you did with the Oxybelis aeneus group @loarie how do I upload images in the comments? :'v
Okay, this is my propousal. Using the IUCN map and the separations are based on: Barrio-Amorós (2019); Bolívar et al. (2017); Daza et al. (2009); Duellman (1958); Pazmiño-Otamendi (2020) and Inat observations.
And L. rhombifera does has a map in the IUCN, I guess they added it recently. https://dx.doi.org/10.2305/IUCN.UK.2022-1.RLTS.T203541A217780380.en
I'd like to read your opinions.
@loarie Hi, I would like to know if this was helpful. In addition, a new article also support my proposal:
Costa, J. C. L., Graboski, R., Grazziotin, F. G., Zaher, H., Rodrigues, M. T., & Prudente, A. L. C. (2022). Reassessing the systematics of Leptodeira (Serpentes, Dipsadidae) with emphasis in the South American species. Zoologica Scripta 51(4): 1-19. https://doi.org/10.1111/zsc.12551
@felipe_barrerao apologies for missing your post 3 months ago. I made taxon ranges based on your suggestions and posted this draft split here: https://www.inaturalist.org/taxon_changes/116236
for Leptodeira septentrionalis -> Leptodeira septentrionalis, Leptodeira larcorum, Leptodeira ornata, Leptodeira polysticta
does this look ready to commit?
I added the IUCN range for Leptodeira rhombifera - thanks
These 3 species are still missing ranges:
Leptodeira misinawui
Leptodeira tarairiu
Leptodeira ashmeadii
Adding in top identifiers @josuergg & @bungaosam83 in case they have feedback
OK committed - here's what happened to the IDs
Total IDs of input taxon: 4218
Number of IDs Destination Atlas

The taxon Leptodeira septentrionalis ornata should have been replace with Leptodeira ornata.
