Just 4 of the 34 Western Australian Snail Orchids have been formally named with the other 30 pending. Here in the Porongurup species from the Pterostylis complex may be any one of 3 varieties within this complex: Pterostylis dilatate (lack a rosette of leaves); Pterostylis sp. 'inland' (Hairy Stemmed Snail Orchid, due to its hairy stem) or Pterosylis sp. "southern granites' (grows in moss on granite outcrops, is often short and has a small rosette of leaves).
