Caladenia pendens has 2 subspecies. Caladenia pendens ssp. pendens is the only subspecies occurring in the Porongurup area, the other subspecies Caladenia pendens ssp. talbotii occurring from Watheroo to Beverley. It has long pendulous flowers and lateral sepals. C. pendens ssp are part of the Wispy SPider Orchid Complex. The other 2 are Caladenia polychroma (Joseph's Spider Orchid) and C. vulgate (Common Spider Orchid.
