Odontella sp. have variable appearances and morphotypes and may be singular or form chains. Valves are elliptical to lanceolate (Lance-shaped, having a wider rounded base and tapering towards the tip) each with two long, tapering and slightly divergent horns. Adjacent cells are united by these horns. The horns are a commonality among all species of Odontella. Cells vary in size dramatically ranging 15 – 110 um with numerous chloroplasts.

Relative Abundance: Common

Habitat: Cosmopolitan, nertitic and littoral waters.
