Rough Goose Neck Moss (Hylocomiadelphus triquetrus)

Observer

Date

Description

This moss was medium length and bright green in color. It heavily covered the fallen logs on the ground and was on the base of some of the living trees. It was slightly wet and soft and covered the logs like a blanket. It peeled off of the logs very easily. Very small bugs were found living in the moss.

Very common in our area! The bottom was brown of course and the top had a green/yellow color to it. Moss was also found on the trees but was only on the side of the tree that the sunlight reached.

Description

The clover mites were extremely small and very hard to see. They were bright red suggesting that the only ones we found were very young. They were found on logs especially under them when they were upturned. There were many of them although not all of them were noticeable due to their small size. None were found on the upright trees only on the fallen logs on the ground.
