Growing under tulip poplar in mixed deciduous/oak. Minor damage to caps, teeth bruising brown to black with time, flesh staining gray to black with time. Both stems with a hollow cavity in the upper half.
I have never found one before and am not confident at all. It is soft, but the structure seems thicker than I expected. I think it is fairly young and about 6" wide. The pieces I brought home show 3 concentric rings and are fibrous, yet soft. They do not stain, smells slightly fragrant. At base of living oak in grassy spot.

Grass on the oaks oh they're all over the place. Turns blue.
