What

Red-billed Gull (Chroicocephalus novaehollandiae ssp. scopulinus)

Observer

jon_sullivan

Date

March 9, 2002 10:52 AM NZDT

Description

I photographed this seagull because it had odd growth (tongue?) coming out from under the base of its beak.

Looking at it later, it's not clear to me whether it's a red-billed gull or a black-billed gull? The long bill looks more like a black-billed gull, but I'd appreciate being corrected if that's wrong.

What

Little Black Cormorant (Phalacrocorax sulcirostris)

Observer

bbi2

Date

October 31, 2013 04:02 PM NZDT

Description

It was walking down the truck like duck-walk, tumbling down to the bank and settled on the grasses. I think it was looking for parents and now waiting for parents to come back or being lost? Then a black backed gull flew on the rock nearby and looking at the chick. I don't know the gull might attack the chick? :-(
