Walking up Pecos River/Independence Creek intersection, following behind three other people who stepped right over it. I then stopped it before I stepped on it. Male. 13.5cm. Also uploaded picture of habitat. Very shallow, ankle deep, fast flowing water. Rocky area, his shell was blending in as a rock.
Female found swimming in middle of a shallow pond heading for deeper waters. Carapace measured 11 inches.

I realized after I got home that this is a Life Herp for me since they've split the cooters into a few species.
Dolan Falls Preserve is owned by The Nature Conservancy and is not open to the public. Access is through special permission only. The preserve is adjacent to Devil's River State Natural Area, which is open to the public on a restricted schedule.
The reddish markings on the shell were obvious through binoculars but didn't translate well through the camera zoom. However, I believe there is enough here to confirm the ID.
Dozens of basking Rio Grande Cooters on these nearby rocks, with some Red-eared Sliders among them.
