Identified by five midribs.

Of the algae present in this photo the Nereocystis luetkeana are the individuals with the pnuematocysts (bulbs where the blades are attached).

Also present in photo are Alaria and Desmarestia.

Attached to substrate on pebbly beach.

Multiple iridescent blades.

Found growing on rocky shore in intertidal zone.

There is a main stem with many branchlets.

Found growing right at water line at low tide.

Branching is mostly alternate. Flowerlike tufts present at ends of branches.

Found loose on rocky beach close to water at low tide.
