Description

I'm fairly sure this is a different individual, also adult, seen about 15 minutes after I took my first shots -on this same snorkel in Kaurna Pool- of the Spotted Pipefish which features as 2 images in a much earlier submission.
So it is a valid separate record,I believe.[For the record,it is not unusual to see multiple adults of the species in the seagrass beds adjacent the channel or outlet on the southern end of this Pool,so I was surprised to find none on my most recent search there, around about Xmas Day 2018!! But I think the tide was slightly too far in,they show themselves as it ebbs more]

Description

Unusual 4-armed morph of this 5-armed species. Found in typical position on open sandy substrate.Snorkel, depth here ~2.5-3 m.Most of the immediate surrounds consisted of low profile rock reef ,fields of brown algae(mostly Scaberia agardhii) and sea-grass meadows (Posidonia and Amphibolis and a few lush, bright areas of Zostera-like 'eel-grass,but we weren't certain if those were indeed Zostera),with a few patches of moderately large rocks and boulders closer to shore. There were relatively few small areas of clean bare sand like in the above pics, in the limited area of rocky coastline we covered on this snorkel)

Judging by it's colouration, this crab should be amongst rocks, however it was washed-up on a sandy stretch of beach a fair distance from any substantial rocks.
It was missing several legs and an eye but was still alive (perhaps just) and displaying what appeared to be feeding behaviour - one claw loaded with sand and firmly held to it's mouth.
