Description

Calling chipmunk recorded and photographed, consistent with this species. I was a bit surprised to see this species at 4,500 feet elevation, but the diagnostic (?) U-shaped sonogram of the chip note is noted (see recording and graph of sonogram from Raven).

Description

The recording is really faint. There's a good whistle towards the end. I was at least 1/4 mile away from the elk.

Tule Elk were calling to each other and snorting. 2 males butted antlers. The elk made an interesting high pitched whistling sound. There were about a dozen.

Description

I wish the photos were better but it was just too far away for the camera to get a clear shot. However, you can clearly see the white rump patch in the pic where it flew off the post to hunt over the overgrown hayfield. Beautiful bird!
