Tidytips (Genus Layia)Observer

The white flower in the photograph is one of the Tidy Tips (Layia sp.) that was observed this past spring at Coyote Ridge Open Space Preserve in southern Santa Clara County, CA. I have identified both Tidy Tips (Layia platyglossa) and Woodland Tidy Tips (Layia gaillardioides) at this preserve, mainly distinguishing them by the presence or absence of glandular hairs on the peduncle of the plant's flower head. As that detail cannot be seen in this photograph, I am leaving this flower identified to the genus Layia only.
Note: The profusion of yellow flowers surrounding the Tidy Tips are Goldfields. I have created a separate post for them.

Pelicans in cypress trees at Point Lobos. Loved seeing this :-) apparently there was an algae bloom after the heat waves we had recently, resulting in many anchovies and the pelicans and humpbacks were loving it
