Stipe snapped easily , faint odor almost apricot like but not. Growing in sandy substrate. Cold wet climate near river bank

Description

Phlebia tremellosa
Very viscid, cartilage and gelatinous texture. Three distinct color.
Upper story: Doug Fir(Pseudotsuga menziesii), Western Hemlock(Tsuga heterophylla),
Understory: Salal(Gaultheria shallon), Sword fern(Polystichum munitum), salmon berry(Rubus spectabilis),
Oregon grape(Mahonia aquifolium), evergreen huckleberry(Vaccium ovatum)

Description

Found Oct 21st near the Evergreen State College. Specimen found growing in the root pocket of an Acer macrophyllum tree. Other plant associations include Thuja plicata, Gaultheria shallon, and Vaccinium ovatum. The day was dry but the ground was slightly moist. Slightly sunny and around 55 degrees F. Spores dropped abundantly and spore print was black. Edges of the fruiting body were very frail and degrading.

Description

Weather: chilly overcast day with light rains after a frigid week.
Habitat: growing on the lawn and rock ditch outside of one of the Evergreen apartments.
Plant association: big leaf maple and alder overstory, turf grass.
Key features: Hollow cream stipe possibly from insect damage. Brown scaling on brown cap. Cobwebby veil present after universal veil torn on young subjects.
Elevation: 100ft

Weather: partly cloudy, ~60*F, has been dry for several days

Habitat: North-facing slope, predominately Douglas Fir overstory, some Ponderosa Pine, Ribes cereum, Vaccinium myrtillus, bryophytes nearby.

Substrate: Ponderosa stump

Features: Perrenial, pileus surface smooth (not grooved) with dull red band, white pores

Description

Location: Forested north-facing slope near the Prairie Trail on Mount Helena.

Elevation: 1474 m

Habitat: Predominately Pseudotsuga menziesii overstory, sparse understory

Substrate: bark, foot of Pseudotsuga menziesii

Nearby species: Pseudotsuga menziesii, Ribes cereum, Geastrum sp., Parmelia sulcata, Usnea sp.

Features: inrolled, tubular lobes with hooded to flaring lobe tips; sorediate especially under lobe tips; greenish-grey with black mottling; inner tube surface white, lower attachment surface black, lacking rhizines.

  • Found in mixed second growth forest on wetlands at dusk.
  • Overcast weather
  • Substrate: forest duff
  • Right off trail in a scattered cluster at the base of Alder (Alnus rubra),
  • Vegetation in proximity: elderberry (Sambuca rasamosa), bracken ferns (Pteridium aquilinum)

  • Hollow stemmed and stained orange. Annulus prominent.
