Small (5-6 mm), dark bodies, dark veins on wings. Note wings are very short. Are these males?
I am guessing this is E. invaria. Size (about size 16) and coloration right.
Dark gray body, wings. Wings noticeably veined. Large - size 10 or 12. Back and middle legs cream colored. Front legs dark with cream colored forelegs.
Sulphur dun mayfly, probably Ephemerella dorothea. Size 20. Decent hatch. Also saw one slightly darker and slightly larger dun in flight. Was that a late-blooming Ephemerella invaria?
Also fished above Route 9, 7-9PM. Same insects there, and saw a few black caddis, size 18-20 above water. Water above route 9 was 53F.
This one got a little beat up in the collection and preservation process. Found on the lower reaches of Hop Brook, near Quabbin Reservoir
Common Stoneflies (Family Perlidae) have two tail-like cerci longer than the width of the thorax. Also notice the gills at the leg bases on this aquatic naiad. Found in Bova Creek that joins Red House Brook and eventually empties into the Allegheny River.
