I believe this is sand sage, but the plant stalk structure is not quite the same. Not sure what else it could be. It was growing right next to some silver sage, in direct sun and dry soil.

What

California King Snake (Lampropeltis californiae)

Observer

alys______

Description

Since I found this snake in Ruidoso on a little late nigh adventure, and it was identified as a California snake species, it was assumed it was a hitchhiker. The pattern on the snake is black and white, its form has triangle-like shapes from head to tail. The white sections seem to be upwards, while the darker portions of black seem to face downward. The head is mainly black, but its mouth area is white. As an estimate it looks to be about 3-4 feet in length but is does not appear to be on the bigger side in terms of weight.

Large canid paw prints. There have been no official reports of Grey Wolves in northeastern Nevada, but when I lived in Elko, people have said they’ve seen them in the Jarbidge Mountains, not too far from here. Could be nothing, but these were dubious when I saw them.
