Looks like this California Tortoise Shell butterfly was in a little scuffle. Today, I saw 3 of them swirling around each other, two at a time.

March 31, 2020 3:30 pm – While on a walk I heard tell-tale drumming. Looking around for a dead tree, I spotted a Northern Flicker. After I returned home and viewed the photos taken with a zoom setting, I discovered there were TWO Northern Flickers on the treetop. Elevation ~4200'
